The Research Analyst/Consultant will work within a group of experienced pharmaceutical and business researchers who conduct in-depth research in support of important internal initiatives and external projects.
In this role, the Research Analyst/Consultant will interpret information requirements based on an understanding of the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare industries; identify appropriate information resources; design and execute complex search strategies; analyze and summarize findings; and present the results in a variety of formats as required.
This position requires demonstrated expertise conducting online searches of commercial and publicly accessible information resources relevant to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare industries. These include pharmaceutical pipeline databases, such as ADIS R&D Insight and Pharmaprojects, and medical literature databases, such as Medline and EMBASE. A thorough knowledge of business information resources is also required.
The successful candidate will have a strong customer service orientation, the ability to manage shifting priorities and competing deadlines, and the flexibility required to work in a very demanding and fast-paced environment.
An ALA-accredited master's degree in library science is required.
Three to five years of relevant work experience, preferably with a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company, is required.
Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel is highly desirable.

DESCRIPTION
The North Carolina Collection of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s University Library seeks an energetic and resourceful individual to coordinate the Collection’s public services. The Head of Public Services has primary responsibilities for planning and directing reference services; coordinating access to and use of materials; scheduling reference desk coverage; maintaining reading room security, and overseeing stacks maintenance. The position coordinates staff responses to off-site inquiries, including interlibrary loan, correspondence, telephone, fax, and email requests. The Head of Public Services also promotes use of the Collection by assisting researchers directly at the desk, by responding to outside inquiries, and through presentations to classes, professional organizations, and other groups.
The Head of Public Services also develops reference guides for in-house use and for inclusion on the Collection’s website and assists in planning and implementing digital projects as assigned. The position directly supervises two full-time assistants, undergraduate student workers, and occasional graduate assistants. The position coordinates services and oversees cooperative projects with other library special collection departments and public service points. All librarians in the University Library are expected to be active participants in library and campus committees, professional organizations, and the greater academic community.
The North Carolina Collection is the largest and most comprehensive collection of library materials related to a single state. Its holdings include more than 250,000 books, pamphlets, government documents, newspapers, periodicals, maps, and audiovisual materials. It also holds more than 1.3 million photographs and 15,000 artifacts. The Collection is widely known for its distinguished Thomas Wolfe and Sir Walter Raleigh collections. Open seven days a week, the Collection is used by undergraduate and graduate students, University faculty and staff, scholars from other institutions, professional writers, and the general public.
QUALIFICATIONS

POSITION: Head of Public Services, North Carolina Collection

DESCRIPTION
The North Carolina Collection of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s University Library seeks an energetic and resourceful individual to coordinate the Collection’s public services. The Head of Public Services has primary responsibilities for planning and directing reference services; coordinating access to and use of materials; scheduling reference desk coverage; maintaining reading room security, and overseeing stacks maintenance. The position coordinates staff responses to off-site inquiries, including interlibrary loan, correspondence, telephone, fax, and email requests. The Head of Public Services also promotes use of the Collection by assisting researchers directly at the desk, by responding to outside inquiries, and through presentations to classes, professional organizations, and other groups.
The Head of Public Services also develops reference guides for in-house use and for inclusion on the Collection’s website and assists in planning and implementing digital projects as assigned. The position directly supervises two full-time assistants, undergraduate student workers, and occasional graduate assistants. The position coordinates services and oversees cooperative projects with other library special collection departments and public service points. All librarians in the University Library are expected to be active participants in library and campus committees, professional organizations, and the greater academic community.
The North Carolina Collection is the largest and most comprehensive collection of library materials related to a single state. Its holdings include more than 250,000 books, pamphlets, government documents, newspapers, periodicals, maps, and audiovisual materials. It also holds more than 1.3 million photographs and 15,000 artifacts. The Collection is widely known for its distinguished Thomas Wolfe and Sir Walter Raleigh collections. Open seven days a week, the Collection is used by undergraduate and graduate students, University faculty and staff, scholars from other institutions, professional writers, and the general public.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: ALA-accredited MLS or Master’s degree in American history/studies or related discipline; employment experience in a special collections and/or archives; public service experience; supervisory experience; familiarity with North Carolina history and culture; excellent communication and writing skills.
Preferred: Two or more years of professional library/archives experience; knowledge of the history of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; knowledge of online reference tools relevant to the Collection’s subject focus; experience developing electronic reference guides to promote use and access to a library/archives collection.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a twelve-month academic librarian appointment; salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Standard state benefits of annual leave, sick leave, and State or optional retirement plan. This position is the NC ECHO (North Carolina Exploring Cultural Heritage Online) Project Manager. Plans, coordinates & implements a statewide program to encourage the use of digital technologies to provide access to the State’s cultural heritage resources; establishes & maintains partner relationships with cultural heritage entities statewide; consults & provides technical assistance to partners on digitization & online presentation of cultural heritage resources, with consultation on issues of collection, preservation, processing, & description where appropriate; works with libraries, archives, museums, historic sites & interested parties statewide & beyond to encourage best practices & use of standards in digitization; assists in managing statewide grant programs designed to support digitization of cultural heritage resources; oversees continuing education initiatives; supervises 4 project staff; serves a convener of statewide project advisory committee.
