The incumbent will be expected to work collaboratively in the planning and implementation of metadata standards for digital resources; including the selection of metadata schema, data elements, thesauri and assistance in creating crosswalks. The incumbent will oversee the planning and implementation of descriptive and subject metadata as well as authority control for the Library’s digital projects, such as the Literary Map of North Carolina and the Digital Archive on American Slavery.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The incumbent will have leadership responsibility for the UNCG NC DOCKS Contents Processing Team. NC DOCKS is a shared Institutional Repository (IR) with four other University of North Carolina institutions. Serves as a member of the Triangle South Asia Consortium (TSAC), a U.S. Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center, and supports TSAC outreach initiatives.&lt;br /&gt;• Develops a unified collection development policy for a dispersed collection on South Asia in TSAC.  This is undertaken in collaboration with bibliographers at Duke University, the University of North Carolina, North Carolina State University, and North Carolina Central University, the heads of collection development, the TRLN Collections Council, and TSAC faculty. It is a policy simultaneously sensitive to the needs of scholars, the existing strengths of each collection, and the requirements of each campus.&lt;br /&gt;• Works closely with librarians and faculty in TSAC to realize the systematic and long-term development of research collections in selected vernaculars appropriate to the teaching and research interests of TSAC faculty and which will serve as a regional and national research resource.&lt;br /&gt;• Participates in relevant discipline groups of subject librarians and fosters cooperation with other subject librarians, technical services staff, and instructional technology staff at Duke and with relevant personnel at other institutions.&lt;br /&gt;• Works closely with Acquisitions and Cataloging at Duke and UNC on vendor problems, processing priorities, and problem resolution, especially for materials in South Asian languages.&lt;br /&gt;• Builds good working relationships with the LC field offices in New Delhi and Islamabad, and librarians and vendors in South Asia.&lt;br /&gt;• Is responsible for identifying and acquiring library materials for Duke, primarily in the humanities and social sciences, in Western languages in all formats for Southeast Asian Studies; monitors and reviews approval plans, gifts and exchange relationships.&lt;br /&gt;• Depending on interest, background and availability, may participate in the rotational schedule of the Duke University reference desk, answering reference questions and assisting patrons.&lt;br /&gt;• Participates actively in professional associations, such as CONSALD and CORMOSEA.  Leads Duke and UNC’s participation in national projects such as DSAL: Digital South Asia Library. For specialized research materials dealing with specific countries, UNC libraries shares responsibility with Duke University libraries. North Carolina Collection of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s University Library seeks an energetic and resourceful individual to coordinate the Collection’s public services.  The Head of Public Services has primary responsibilities for planning and directing reference services; coordinating access to and use of materials; scheduling reference desk coverage; maintaining reading room security, and overseeing stacks maintenance. The Knowledge Services (KS) Specialist will provide major training, logistical, content and management support for this initiative.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One way the Unit currently supports internal KM is via Sharepoint, an online archive and collaborative workspace. The KS Specialist will provide hands-on technical support to continually improve the usability of Sharepoint as well as on-demand and proactive trainings and consultations with staff. There is also a content management role including keeping the homepage content fresh; surveying portal pages for adherence to content management protocols; and working with page owners and users to strengthen their implementation of the protocols and their skills as knowledge leaders.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Specialist will also contribute to an exciting initiative underway that will expand the archival and search functions of Sharepoint. The IntraHub initiative will support user searches that call for the integration of information across projects, offices and time. The position will be involved in related administrative tasks as well as the design and use of the IntraHub system.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A key challenge the Specialist will help the KM Unit address is implementing KM standards throughout our field offices to build a more integrated global network within the IntraHealth.
